If the whole is equal to the sum of its parts than our "whole" cannot be reached until our parts are gathered and acknowledged. This blog will act as a collection, a gallery that records our “parts and particles” (our particulars) in an effort to connect the dots; to endlessly connect the dots.
I think that immigration is so blown out of proportion. I think that we should keep a border - but we should still allow people to come in and out of our country. Mexicans come to the USA for jobs and for mostly good reasons. Why can't we let them work?
Sierra has a good point. America is supposed to be a place where good things happen. I think immigrants have hope in coming to the states. I definitely believe that there should always be a defined legal status to the immigrants coming in. When it comes to jobs, if your an illegal immigrant, why should born U.S. citizens have to suffer from lack of jobs that we already have?
Sierra, what about strict borders purely for the concept of sovereignty? What about ranchers down there that are getting killed and robbed by drug cartels? What about illegal aliens living off our taxes because of the welfare state? I am not calling you out or anything I agree with you about coming to work. but there is another side to this story.
I dont really know to much about this problem.. but i do know the the number of people that are coming over the border and taking our jobs is taking a big effect one amaericans who are legealy able to be here.
I think that is it NOT fair at all for people to come into our country and take our jobs.. in these times right now there are so many people that cant find jobs bc there is someone that isn't american citizen but have a job here.
immigration honestly isnt a big deal to me. personally i feel strongly about the pursuit of happyness and if america is where these people can come to better their lives and the lives of their family by all means it should happen
I agree to the fact that the immigration issue is blown out of proportion, but at the same time im not as clear on that issue, to be honest.i feel like its a free country,so why not? why does it have to be so restricted? my family are immigrants and they came over to better themselves. the goal of most immigrants is to better themselves because of the poor resources their use to. so why be selfish?
I agree wit sierra a 100%... i feel like if its the a "free country" why should it cost people too come over and join the united states... earlier today i was listening to the news while i was getting dress and i over heard someone saying that the Mexicans are coming over hear just to have children here so they can get citizenship...
now my opinion on that is, why is it a big deal? it states in the Constitution that if you are born in America then YOU ARE AN AMERICAN CITIZEN!
so why are ppl discriminating??
its sorry too see how selfish America is being about this situation....
It is prevalent in the region and certain precautions should be taken but never at the expense of civil liberties. Personally, the whole deal makes me pretty heated, being that it's also an internal attack on our very citizens that in no way should have to fall prey to the issue. Also the non-ethical way it's being done winds me up, especially regarding racial profiling, what qualifies as "reasonably suspicious" anyways?
Well I do agree with Hannah about how this is America, and we should allow immigrants to come in. However, many Mexican women come here pregnant and have their children illegally here. They do not have to pay to have their children in our hospitals or get medical care, but yet we have to pay for it. I am all for immigration, and I wish people had more of a chance to come here legally , than illegally. I am not very educated of this subject. Basically I think that if you are legal here, and respecting the ways of America that you should be welcomed.
My knowledge is very limited about the whole situation. I have a realitive who works for the FBI. He had to go on border patrol for four months. During that time, he called me often. He told me about how dangerous it was. They were lookig more for drugs and weapons than illegal aliens. I feel people should be able to come into our country, but if they plan to stay, they have to adapt to our way of life, like learning the language. They have to obey our laws.I do feel that people that are here illegally and working are taking away jobs that others may have.
I agree with Sierra but other than that I dont really have much to say about it. I dont really watch the news or anything so Im not well informed and I cant really express my opinion on the topic.
domenic has a VERY good point. all that is true but it comes to a point where we have to put ourselves in their shoes. im american but illegal immigration done correctly is a fool proof plan lol. sort of a get rich quick scheme that actually works
I didn't know too much about immigration prior to this year and after to doing a lot of research on it I am totally for strict borders. I have read articles where illegal immigrants get away with drinking and driving or drug possession because its too difficult to file paperwork without any identification. So often times they are released. That isn't the immigrants fault but why does the law enforcement cater to them?
I dont think that there is a lot of drug trafficing.. the one thing that i have a problem with is they come to america and cant afford it so we as US citizen have to help support them with taxes.. for there food stamps and other things to help them get by.. Do you guys think that is fair? bc i dont think it is at all.. i think that if they cant afford it they should come here.
i feel that immigration should be dealt with in different ways than they are dealing with it now. When aliens come into america they should be checked and have a background check. There are alot of aliens that commit crimes and deal drugs for a quick buck. but they should not all be bamned, i just feel that more jobs should be created for those who immigrate here and let americans have the first chance to get a job. We should not have to learn their language they should learn our. They should adjust to us not vice versa. With all of the problems that america has immigration should be the least of them.
lol kyrin is right about the get rich quick haha. I am 100% for open borders, but only after we legalize drugs and eliminate the welfare state. That way there would be no tax payers suffering and no need to smuggle drugs in here because it would be legal. I dont have any answers on how to achieve this but I think it would help.
I really do understand you Dominic - I feel that illegal aliens shouldnt be first priority for welfare and federal benifits. Not speaking selfishly but I feel that the US citizens should have first priority versus legal aliens even if they have passed the citizen test.
Also, food stamps aren't just free money. that money comes from the government. But even if an immigrant got food stamps. They would still need shelter. They coulf get unemployement maybe, but that runs out quickly, because it's government money.
FOOL PROOF!!!!! exactly the war on drug effects us in ways we often dont realize in many of the problems we have would b eliminated just like prohibition
Yea but were does the government get that money? our tax dollars.. we are in sooooooo much debt right now we dont have the money to support them with that.
I don't think that our borders are protected enough. If the United States wanted to crack down harder on illegal immagrants they could, they just choose not to. I second what Britney said... how it's not the immagrants coming here that's the problem, it's them coming here and not being able to support themselves. Which leads them to sell drugs or commit crime, and then leaves us to pay for all of it with taxes. It all connects will the other problem the country has.
i feel that anyone should be able to come to the US.if america is suppose to be the "land of the free" i dont see why immigrants cant come to america. america should be open to anybody who wants to live here. if people arent coming to amerca to cause any troble, the goverment shouldnt have the choice to not let them in america. plus, when america was found it was stolein from the Native Americans.so that makes evrybody a immigrant. so if arent allowed in america we shouldnt be allowed either
You guys all make very good points in regards to the illegal immigrant's right to be here. But the fact reminds that they ARE here, whether you like it or not, and in growing numbers. This effects the entire American economy and labor-driven workforce. How do you guys think this issue affects American industry? Illegal immigrants are not granted social security benefits due to a lack of a social security card, but they are making money some way. Did you know that most slaughterhouses almost exclusively employ illegal immigrants? There is no need for education and an immigrants willingness to work in any conditions for nearly any amount of money makes them ideal candidates for such work. How much do you think your everyday life actually depends on illegal immigrants performing tasks that you yourself would not? How does this conflict with your "this is right/this is wrong" mindset? If we could deport every illegal immigrant right now, could you deny that America would fall into a recession that makes the past decade look like we lost a dollar?
brittany is right about that. Any public benefit, social security, medicaid, medicare, libraries, post office, public schools, FOOD STAMPS, are all paid for in American citizen tax dollars. Statistics say that the number of illegal aliens is up over 20 million. That money beuing used to pay for them could pay for all the citizens in Chicago and New York twice.
I think we can relate this, again, to our texts. Since this effects the prison system (True Notebooks) and has an effect on Middle Eastern Americans and what it means to be "American" (Persepolis), we can examine this through the lens of our texts.
I am also interested in the missing conversation about why people are leaving other countries and coming here. We might need to look at where they are coming from and why they are leaving homes, families, etc. It's more than the "American Dream."
Italy, and a large part of the EU, have very strict border regulations. When the Sudanese refugees asked Berlusconi for amnesty, he sent them to the island that used to be prisons. They were barely given refugee status. In France we saw that similiar things were happening and there was an "underground" of illegal immigrants who were suddenly demanding their rights.
What are the benefits of "open doors" and what are the drawbacks? Nobody in this classroom would be here without immigration--were all of our immigrant ancestors legal?
My mother is from Ireland and, as an immigrant, she sympathizes with open borders. She left Ireland because of car bombs in her neighborhood in the 70s and she came to the states because she identified Europe with why there were car bombs in the first place; she just wanted to be away from everything like that. Now she bemoans that choice a bit because Americans don't see the effects, they are removed, from their choices. We don't see the soldiers we've sent abroad, we don't see our country's debt and borrowing, we live very removed from reality. My mother says that, at least in Ireland, she was aware and experiencing what her country was choosing to do and how the citizens of her country were responding to the country's choices.
I truly think if someone is devoted enough to achieve the "america dream" they have to go through a process of becoming an illegal immigrant.
for the ones that come here just to work to help their families... its a proven fact that they send the money they earn back to mexico. What do illegal immigrants give back to the US? Legal immigrants (also known as U.S. citizens) pay taxes and are productive members of society. Illegal "aliens" use our healthcare, school systems and give nothing back to the states.
I think that immigration is so blown out of proportion. I think that we should keep a border - but we should still allow people to come in and out of our country. Mexicans come to the USA for jobs and for mostly good reasons. Why can't we let them work?

ReplyDeleteA lot of the immigration issues arent from people wanting to better themselves. I think theres such a heavy restriction for drug trafficking.
