If the whole is equal to the sum of its parts than our "whole" cannot be reached until our parts are gathered and acknowledged. This blog will act as a collection, a gallery that records our “parts and particles” (our particulars) in an effort to connect the dots; to endlessly connect the dots.
If I had to compare myself to any of the characters it would definatly be Mark. I can't relate to the inmates at all. I don't feel the same way they do or think the same way they do. Mark goes to find information, and he's doing it for his own benifit. I can't relate to Mark completely, but I don't relate to any of the other characters, Mark is the closest I can relate to.
I have a connection to Rasheed in True Notebooks because he has a child outside of prison and he feels bad because he can’t see his kid and he has a girlfriend on the outside too. His situation grew me closer to him because I really wanted to learn more about his background. My half-sister was in jail and neither her kids nor me saw her for a long time. That’s like Rasheed in the book because when he’s away his kid or his girlfriend couldn’t see him for a long time. When your loved one is in prison you feel a lot of emotion. I felt sad because I couldn’t see or talk to my sister for a long time. His situation seemed to be the saddest one out of all the prisoners. He was the most relatable to how I felt at the time of my sister’s arrest.
I dont speicifically relater with any character, but i really relate to the moral of the stopry. I have seen myself change drasticaly over the past 5 years or so.
This is a great question. This might help some of us find our point of entry into the text and develop ideas for the final project. Some of the responses seem a little underdeveloped--can you show us specifics to support your points? Can you discuss why relating to any part of the text assists in your reading?
Benny Wong would be the most similar to the way I am and the way I see myself. He does not know who he is, and I think everyone knows now that I dont know who I am either.
I am drawn to Francisco, he pushes people to open themselves up more than they will be willing to do, so for that reason i can relate to him the most

I like Carter - he is a good father to me :] he cares about his child and regrets the mistakes he made.
